The LMS is the foremost Live Music society in UCC. One of the biggest goals of the society is to provide high-quality live music entertainment to students. We also promote local musicians (from UCC and elsewhere) and aim to provide resources and support for musicians.

Every year we run a series of showcase gigs where we exhibit the very best talent that Cork & UCC have to offer. We also organise a Battle of the Bands competition, which has proven to be a huge success. The prizes for the 2014 competition included a spot at Castlepalooza Music & Arts Festival and a recording session with Bubble Room Studios.

All of our gigs and events are completely booked, organised and run by members of the LMS.

We run Meet & Greet events for musicians and people in the music industry to provide students with a chance to meet other musicians, gig promoters, recording studios etc.

In 2014/15 we plan on bringing bigger bands to play in UCC. We want to hold even better events, so that musicians have the best supports possible. For this to happen, we need your help! Joining the LMS will provide you with an opportunity to gain experience in booking and promoting gigs and to make great contacts in the music industry.

Meet the LMS Committee

Eamonn Clancy -

Having joined the society in 2012/2013 as a lowly OCM, Eamonn is this year’s Auditor. A final year computer science student, he gets the short end of the stick when it comes to society banter, but will strike down all his enemies when the time is right.

Eamonn’s weapon of choice is the drums and percussion but is also known for his fantastic singing abilities. His influences include the likes of Biffy Clyro, The Joy Formidable, Royal Blood & Cork locals Lowlek.

(Yes, he is that small and not just far away!)

Ciaran Mckenzie -
Vice-Auditor & Events Officer

Joining in the hope of bringing much needed change to the society, ambitious McKenzie brings his promotion skills to the fore as our events officer. He’s known for shlappin’ tha bass with slightly scary outfit Here We Stand. Also a self-proclaimed drummer, McKenzie just wants to be cool.

Ciaran is a second year nerd, a.k.a. Computer Scientist, who is rarely seen attending lectures but somehow get by grand.

Pádraig Collins -

Pádraig is currently a masters student sometimes seen straddling a mandolin, god bless. His music taste is summed up with the word “Morrissey”. He is best known for his witty banter in the minutes of our weekly meetings, but joke’s on him, no one reads them!

His second year with the society, Pádraig serves as our sexretary. As well as our weekly meetings, he is also responsible for keeping up the impression of the society, literally, with a gravity defying hairstyle.

Jessie Brannigan -
Finance Officer

Part-time bassist Jessie is the money-woman of the society. We swear, the money was just resting in her account! We forgive her for a lot of things, first year Commerce student and liking the 1975, but she controls the cash, so we have no choice.

Joining the society at our E.G.M. at the start of this year, Jessie has already made impact in the running of the society, handing out pay-outs for pizza, sweets & freebies.

Ben Lamb O'Sullivan -
Public Relations Officer

What would a society be without a resident hippie? Ben fits the profile. Currently studying his H.Dip. in Music, Ben is in charge of all public relations in the society. His music taste ranges from the old to the funk.

Ben is known to show up to a gig half-drunk, with shakers and kazoos to boot. Watch out for him, because when he’s on the horizon, it may be time to head home!

Kelly Doherty -
Vice Public Relations Officer

Speaking of hippies, our resident vegetarian, Kelly, is well known amongst all societies. You know your society is good when Kelly has been elected. Our vice-PRO, her job is purely to provide style to an otherwise averagely awesome society.

Also, as part of the SU and with her blog, The Alternative Tone, Kelly is in the know with the local scene, but it will always fall in comparison to the almighty Taylor Swift. I’m sure, give it enough time and Kelly will be on your committee too!

Helen Lynch -
Booking Officer

Well established in the local scene, Helen joined at the start of this year, beginning her final year in her bachelors of Music. Taking up instruments such as violin, guitar & piano, she knows her way around her music. Providing the best in local talent for the coming year is her speciality and she’ll definitely deliver.

With that all said, it’s fitting she nearly went into meltdown when asked what is her favourite kind music.

Cathal Toomey -
Equipment Officer

Cathal is the longest “serving” member of the society, Three years on the committee, no one is quite sure what he knows that he still around, but as long as he shifts the equipment, no one questions it. Another final year Computer Scientist, he is responsible for the website, constructing and maintaining it, so direct your complaints appropriately.

His talent resides in the drums primarily, but also has a thing for the Trombone. He is also responsible for manning the desk at ad hoc events, and owner of the prestigious LMStv.

Jonny O'Mahony -
Entertainments & Collaborations Officer

Jonny is the society jester this year. We laugh as he tries his hand at drums, violin or viola. If you don’t know who Jonny is, you might not have left the house in the last day or two. His job entails getting us beverage deals, sweets galore, and kitting us out as a recognizable committee.

His duties extend to collaborating with all other societies, exterior businesses, and the Students Union. As an ambassador, he gets his way, as others will never get a word in edge ways.

Ryan O'Connell -
First Year Rep

Ryan is our Arts fresher. Due to peer pressure, his favourite band is Here We Stand, and surprisingly not his own, Monolith. A big prog-rock fan, Ryan lightens the mood with his sassy nature. He is responsible for engaging all first years with the society and also works with the events team.

Pat Murphy -
Events Team

Pat has served on the committee in the past, being co-opted on. He liked it so much, he decided to make it official. The geologist/accordionist admires the Pixies and The Fall, and his favourite music is rock. Really.

Rob Stanton -
Events Team

Rob was elected by pity vote, no shame. He made an impression on the society by helping out all day at Societies day and has been fitting in nicely since, helping where he can. Good job, Rob.
